Welcome to Skinzin Sphynx Cattery.
I hope you enjoy looking at my pictures, and reading a little
about my cats and me, and my contributions to the health and welfare of this
wonderful breed.
I have been actively breeding
Sphynx since
2001, and show my cats in The Cat Fanciers Association. I am proud to
say that I have bred 17
Grand Champions, a Global Breed Winner, and and 2 National Winners. Both my
cattery foundation queens have received the title of Distinguished Merit based on the
number of grand champions they have produced. Le L'Amitie Amenhotesat
of Skinzin, DM is the 2nd Sphynx in
The
Cat Fanciers Association to receive this title. Please look at my
cattery Awards page to see this, and other, awards.
I began in the cat fancy the same
way many do. I have always had cats prior to breeding them.
Becoming a breeder, and having a sphynx cattery was not something I planned to do. But I was captivated by the
sweet personality and look of the Sphynx. Their
inquisitive personalities, and stunning beauty charmed me from the
beginning.
The goal of Skinzin Sphynx Cattery is to produce happy,
healthy Sphynx kittens that closely meet my interpretation of the CFA Sphynx Breed Standard. All my breeder, and retired cats receive
annual cardiac ultrasounds. These ultrasounds are given by a board-certified, licensed veterinary
cardiologist, to ensure the best accuracy possible for diagnoses of any
problem, including hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, a degenerative
heart condition inherent in some Sphynx lines. This is a
practice that I encourage all breeders to invest in if they are to raise
healthy lines. All we can do is our very best by the breed so that
you, the pet owner, receive a pet that will live a long and healthy life and
provide you with the companionship you desire.
My concern with heart-health in Sphynx
Cats resulted in my becoming the Key Coordinator for Sphynx HCM Research. We
now have a grant for DNA research, and Dr. Kate Meurs with Washington State
University, with the help of The Winn Feline Foundation, is working
hard to find the genetic marker on the DNA of the Sphynx Cat for this
condition. We are
hopeful that this research will contribute to the elimination of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy in the Sphynx Breed
through a simple blood test. For more information
about this research, please go to
http://www.sphynxbc.org/affairs.htm. If you have any questions for
Skinzin Sphynx Cattery,
please do not hesitate to email me or give me a call.
I hope you will enjoy visiting the Skinzin Cattery website!
